The Russian Ministry of Finance is drafting a bill that would allow Russian miners to export cryptocurrency, treating it as a product of mining activity. The deputy head of the Ministry of Finance, Ivan Chebeskov, emphasized that the bill is similar to the mechanism of gas export and is aimed at providing miners with the opportunity to sell the mined cryptocurrency on foreign platforms.
In addition to this proposal, Ivan Chebeskov said that the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank have prepared amendments on the application of digital rights in international settlements. These changes will provide new perspectives for business and provide digital platforms with the necessary tools for settlements. It is stated that the State Duma may consider the bill at the spring session.
Recall that the proposal to legalize cryptocurrency mining was submitted to the State Duma in November 2022. It defines the mechanism for the sale by miners of mined currency and the introduction of a ban on advertising digital currency for an unlimited number of people. The obtained cryptocurrency will be able to be sold on foreign platforms without using the Russian information infrastructure. However, despite a year of discussion, the bill is still not ready for the first reading.
