BlackRock has announced its readiness to purchase more bitcoins.

Feb 9, 2024

BlackRock's decision to buy bitcoins will depend on public opinion, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing the company's chief investment officer, Rick Reeder. According to him, although the world's largest asset manager currently has a small stake in bitcoins, this may change in the future. The reader notes that the growing interest in cryptocurrencies as an investment instrument indicates their potential value in the long term.

Rick Reeder manages a wide range of portfolios, including government and pension funds, in the role of Chief Investment Officer for Global Fixed Income at BlackRock and heads the Global Asset Allocation department.

He also notes that with the growing interest in cryptocurrencies, there are more tools that help people get used to owning, buying, selling and withdrawing cryptocurrencies.

At the beginning of the year, the volume of trading in bitcoin ETF shares exceeded the volume of all ETFs in 2023 combined. According to the official website, the volume of assets of the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) bitcoin ETF from BlackRock is 78 thousand bitcoins worth $ 3.5 billion.
