The Epic Games Store has made a significant policy adjustment, allowing the NFT card game Gods Unchained to make a comeback on its platform. Previously, along with other blockchain games, it was removed due to receiving an "Adults Only" (AO) rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). The decision came as a result of the play-to-earn elements in Gods Unchained, which involve players receiving NFTs or crypto tokens with "real-world value," leading to an AO rating, indicating suitability for individuals over 18.
In response to the changing landscape of blockchain games, Epic Games has made an exception to its no-AO games policy for titles that would not receive such a rating if not for their crypto or NFT components. The company clarified that its policies against "gambling," "porn," and "hateful content" remain intact, ensuring that blockchain game developers comply with these restrictions. Although blockchain games offering "real-world value" may continue receiving AO ESRB ratings, this will no longer prevent them from being featured on the Epic Games Store.
