FIFA announces the launch of a new series of NFT collectibles on the Algorand blockchain and Polygon Ethereum scaling network ahead of the 2023 Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia. The organisation is partnering with crypto startup Modex to operate the FIFA+ digital collection platform, which was launched in 2022 and features NFTs issued exclusively on the Algorand blockchain. FIFA is also announcing an expansion to the Polygon blockchain via OpenSea.
FIFA+ Collect will release 1,000 NFTs as part of the Club World Cup, the first 100 of which will be available on Algorand from 15 December. These rare collectibles will offer the chance to win tickets to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The remaining 900 NFTs will be available on OpenSea on the Polygon blockchain from 19 December. FIFA will continue to release NFTs on Algorand through its platform and will also expand to Polygon through OpenSea. A Polygon Labs spokesperson confirmed that the project is now also running on Polygon, and while FIFA clarified that the platform is "expanding" to Polygon, it is "not moving away" from Algorand.
