The Nigerian Immigration Service proudly presents the country's first online portal for international passport applications, launched on January 8, 2024. This innovation aims to simplify the passport application process for citizens both at home and abroad.
First Stage – Application
To apply for a new international passport, visit the application website. Enter your NIN (National Identification Number) and date of birth to verify your identity. Upon verification, the system will automatically generate your biodata, including your name, date of birth, and gender. You will then need to select your passport type and fill in additional fields, such as photograph information and personal details.
Second Stage – Booking Biometric Appointment
After completing your application, you need to book an appointment for biometric data capture. On the homepage of the portal, select 'Book Appointment'. Enter your application ID and reference number, choose an available date and time, and then confirm your appointment.
Third Stage – Passport Collection
Once you have successfully completed the biometric capture, you can track your application status through the portal. The waiting period between biometric capture and passport production is between 3 to 6 weeks.
With the launch of the new online portal, the process of applying for an international passport in Nigeria has become more convenient and efficient, eliminating the need for citizens to rely on intermediaries.
