The Nigerian government launches an AI training program for 6,000 senior secondary school teachers across the country.
Program Launch and Its Significance
Organized by the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), the initiative aims to integrate AI into teaching, enhance educational methods, and prepare students for a tech-oriented future. It was initiated on Tuesday in Abuja along with the unveiling of new minimum education standards. Education Minister Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa described the program as a significant step, emphasizing the need to adapt to the digital era where AI plays a central role.
New Standards for Schools
The Minister highlighted the new standards for senior secondary education, developed by NSSEC with stakeholder collaboration and approved by the National Council on Education. Professor Suwaiba Said Ahmed, the Minister of State for Education, stated the importance of participating in the digital race.
Five-Week Virtual Program
NSSEC Executive Secretary Dr. Iyela Ajayi detailed the online training, sponsored by Google Research and supported by Data Science Nigeria and Olabisi Onabanjo University. The course, divided into five modules, will involve 6,000 teachers, ensuring a nationwide reach and aimed at enhancing education quality.
