AltSchool Africa has announced the launch of an online tech training program aimed at teenagers, designed to unlock their creativity and tech skills.
Program Overview
AltSchool Africa is launching an online program aimed at teenagers to help them unlock their potential in technology. The program focuses on 1-on-1 mentorship and practical skills in software engineering, responding to parental demands for timely guidance in their children's paths.
Goals and Methodology
According to Nifemi Akinwamide, Head of Global Operations at AltSchool Africa, the program is developed on a 'catch them young' principle. This initiative arose from the need to engage teenagers in tech skills earlier, skills that are typically learned only at the university level. 'We believe that learning various tech skills at ages 14-16 will help kids understand their career opportunities and make informed decisions,' Nifemi noted.
Course Structure and Next Steps
The course will last 2-3 months and will cover fundamental web development concepts, such as HTML and CSS. Nifemi stated that the program is designed to complement regular school activities while maintaining a balance between training and academic workload. Following the online phase, there is a plan to consider physical training based on demand.
The AltSchool Africa program is not just about teaching coding skills but also about shaping the career aspirations of teens, aiding their growth and understanding of future opportunities.
