Generative artificial intelligence is reshaping job structures at Amazon, as highlighted by CEO Andy Jassy. He noted that the automation of some processes will lead to a reduction in employees in certain areas.
Impact of Generative AI on Jobs
Andy Jassy stated, "Like with every technical transformation, there will be fewer people doing some of the jobs that the technology actually starts to automate." However, he added that new jobs will also emerge.
Competition for AI Talent
Recently, Amazon lost a key vice president overseeing generative AI development, highlighting the increasing competition for talent in this field. Vasi Philomin, who left Amazon, was responsible for product strategy in AI and oversaw Amazon Titan models.
Future Workforce and New Jobs
Jassy also emphasized that Amazon will continue to expand its workforce in AI and robotics, allowing employees to focus on more innovative tasks. He expects that the corporate workforce will decline in the future, but this doesn’t signify a total job loss: "AI will free employees from routine work and make all our jobs more interesting."
Thus, generative artificial intelligence, according to Amazon's leadership, will lead to a transformation of the job market. While some jobs may be eliminated, the emergence of new opportunities and tasks for employees remains a key factor.
