Describing meme coins as "stupid" may not be entirely accurate, according to BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes. He believes that meme coins have the potential to bring attention and more engineers to the crypto space, which can benefit the blockchain networks they operate on. As a result, chains that can support meme culture are likely to gain value. Hayes specifically mentioned that Solana and Ethereum are well-positioned to leverage the attention generated by memes. While meme coins have faced criticism, they have become increasingly popular among younger crypto investors due to their perceived gaming-like nature. Although Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has shown disinterest in meme coins, he encourages finding ways to make them more useful or charitable rather than dismissing them. Despite varying opinions, meme coins have proven to be among the top-performing asset classes in the crypto sector recently, as shown by CoinGecko data.
