The parents of disgraced FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried, Stanford Law School professors Joseph Bankman and Barbara Fried, are in talks regarding a possible pardon for their son from former US President Donald Trump.
Pardon Uncertainty
Several former FTX executives have managed to reduce their sentences in exchange for cooperation with investigators. Caroline Ellison, former head of Alameda Research, benefited from a reduced sentence for her cooperation. However, Sam Bankman-Fried, sentenced to 25 years, does not currently have such an option.
FTX Reorganization Plan
FTX's court-approved reorganization plan is set to return up to 119% of creditor claims. Initial payments will be made to users with claims of $50,000 or less.
Speculations and Discussions
Speculations about a potential pardon for Bankman-Fried intensified in December, spurred by discussions of his Democratic Party connections. Elon Musk suggested that a pardon was likely, yet key political figures such as former President Joe Biden have not shown support.
The question of Sam Bankman-Fried's release remains unresolved. His parents continue to seek ways for his pardon, despite the complex political landscape surrounding the issue.
