BBVA received approval from the Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores Española to launch an app allowing clients to securely buy, sell, and manage cryptocurrency transactions. This move follows the EU's release of guidelines regarding the operation of crypto services.

The bank previously offered similar services in Turkey and Switzerland. In 2023, its Turkish arm Garanti BBVA began providing crypto custody services, supporting cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDC, and more.
