On February 6, Berachain launches its mainnet identical to the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), distributing approximately 80 million BERA tokens. This announcement comes shortly before the network's initiation.
Launch of Berachain Mainnet
Berachain announced the launch of its mainnet on February 5 with a token airdrop valued at approximately $632 million. The network is EVM-identical, with about 80 million BERA tokens to be distributed to eligible users.
BERA Tokenomics
Out of the total 500 million BERA tokens issued at Genesis, 15.8% will be distributed via an airdrop. The remaining distribution is aimed at ecosystem development and institutional investments.
Proof-of-liquidity Consensus Mechanism
Berachain utilizes an innovative proof-of-liquidity consensus mechanism to secure and sustain the network liquidity by diverting a portion of its revenues back to the ecosystem.
Through its announced airdrop and proof-of-liquidity consensus mechanism, Berachain aims to enhance security and user engagement. BERA is expected to underlie transactions and staking within the network.
