Bhutan takes a significant step in the crypto world by establishing a strategic reserve including Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Gelephu to Include Cryptos in Reserves
Gelephu, a Special Administrative Region in Bhutan, has announced plans to include Bitcoin and Ethereum in its strategic reserves. This is part of the region's strategy to increase economic resilience and explore Bitcoin mining opportunities. With this move, Gelephu becomes one of the first regions to integrate digital assets into its reserves for liquidity and stability.
Bhutan Strengthens Crypto Position
Bhutan has been investing in Bitcoin since 2019. Druk Holding and Investments, the commercial arm of Bhutan's royal government, already holds significant amounts of Bitcoin and other digital assets. According to Arkham Intelligence, Bhutan currently holds about 11,688 BTC and 656 ETH.
The Future of Crypto Reserves in Bhutan
This initiative positions Bhutan as a forward-thinking player in the global crypto scene, strengthening its economy while digital currencies continue to grow. Gelephu is expected to discuss its crypto reserve plans with government officials and global industry leaders in March.
The creation of a strategic reserve demonstrates Bhutan's commitment to integrating cryptocurrencies into its economy, potentially setting an example for other countries in the region.
