The critical May 2025 upgrade to Bitcoin Cash is now activated on the mainnet, introducing two key enhancements.
Activated Update
Bitcoin Cash developer Jason Dreyzehner has announced that the May 2025 upgrade is now live on chipnet, featuring two Bitcoin Cash Improvement Proposals (CHIPs): Targeted Virtual Machine Limits and BigInt CHIP.
Targeted Virtual Machine Limits
The Targeted Virtual Machine Limits or VM Limits CHIP significantly increases compute for real contracts by over 100 times, reducing node utilization by 50%. This simplifies contracts, aids audits, and enhances overall security.
BigInt CHIP Upgrade
BigInt CHIP: High-Precision Arithmetic for Bitcoin Cash offers over 10x reductions in contract lengths, making previously theoretical use cases more feasible, including advanced market-making protocols and decentralized stablecoins.
These upgrades aim to enhance Bitcoin Cash capabilities, strengthening its security and competitiveness in the market.
