Auradine CEO Rajiv Khemani emphasized the critical need for decentralization in Bitcoin's infrastructure, calling it a national security issue.
The Importance of Decentralization for Security
In an interview, Khemani highlighted the dangers posed by third-party firmware used in mining operations. He suggested that such firmware could become a tool for 51% attacks, compromising Bitcoin's security. "When dealing with hardware and software from foreign entities connected to energy infrastructure, caution is essential," Khemani warned.
Supply Chain: Hidden Threats
Beyond software vulnerabilities, Khemani also flagged supply chain risks. If one country monopolizes the manufacturing of specialized mining hardware, it could negatively impact Bitcoin's decentralization and security.
Geographic Hashrate Distribution
Recent data indicates that by May 2024, more than 50% of Bitcoin's total hashrate is controlled by two mining pools. Such trends raise concerns about the potential for coordinated attacks on the network.
The discussion on decentralization and supply chain remains vital for Bitcoin's future security.
