BNB Chain has reached a significant milestone in blockchain performance with the completion of the Maxwell upgrade, which has halved block times to 0.75 seconds. This improvement is set to enhance the overall throughput of the network and speed up user transactions.
Maxwell Upgrade: Key Changes
On June 30, the Maxwell upgrade was completed, marking a significant step for BNB Smart Chain (BSC). As a result, the time for creating new blocks has been reduced by 50%, from 1.5 seconds to 0.75 seconds. This upgrade builds on the earlier Lorentz upgrade, which also reduced block times from 3 seconds to 1.5 seconds.
Key Initiatives for Network Improvement
The Maxwell upgrade enacts three key proposals — BEP-524, BEP-563, and BEP-564 — each designed to improve the speed and reliability of the network.
BEP-524 introduces a new block interval of 0.75 seconds, speeding up transaction confirmations and improving dApp responsiveness.
BEP-563 enhances peer-to-peer messaging between validators, reducing risks of missed votes and sync delays.
BEP-564 introduces new message types to the bsc/2 protocol, significantly improving network sync speeds.
Benefits for Users and Developers
The reduction in block times and improved communication between validators from the Maxwell upgrade is set to provide numerous benefits for all network participants. It will enable faster transactions, better interactions in DeFi and GameFi, and overall stability for users, developers, and node operators.
The Maxwell upgrade on BNB Chain represents a significant advancement, providing users with faster and more efficient transactions, which may positively impact the growth of DeFi and other applications in the ecosystem.
