BNB Chain has successfully tested the Pascal hardfork on its testnet. The upgrade will go live on the mainnet on March 20 at 02:10 AM UTC, marking a major step forward for the network.
EIP-7702: Features and Technical Impact
EIP-7702 allows wallets to function as smart contracts, enhancing BNB Chain's capabilities. The upgrade includes key features such as gas abstraction, improved wallet capabilities, and reduced transaction fees. This will allow new users to utilize blockchain without buying cryptocurrency upfront, thanks to various gas fee payment methods. Wallets can act as smart contracts with enhanced security features.
Required Updates Before March 20
All BNB Chain nodes must update to the latest software version before the hardfork date to stay in sync with the network. This includes updates for node and validator operators, opBNB operators, exchanges, and infrastructure providers.
BNB Chain Development Roadmap
The Pascal hardfork is part of a larger BNB Chain development plan. Two future significant updates are planned: the Lorentz hardfork in April 2025, reducing block times to 1.5 seconds, and the Maxwell hardfork in June 2025, further reducing block times to 0.75 seconds.
The Pascal hardfork represents a significant technical advancement for BNB Chain. With the upcoming Lorentz and Maxwell upgrades, the network continues to develop faster, more flexible, and user-friendly blockchain solutions.
