BNB Chain has successfully tested the Pascal hardfork on its testnet. The upgrade will go live on the mainnet on March 20 at 02:10 AM UTC. This marks a big step forward, making BNB Chain one of the first networks to adopt the EIP-7702 standard.
EIP-7702: Features and Technical Impact
EIP-7702 is a technical standard that allows wallets to function more like smart contracts, offering features such as gas abstraction allowing users to transact without directly paying for gas fees. Other improvements include smart contract wallets with enhanced security and batch transactions reducing fees, alongside improved EVM compatibility expanding developer flexibility.
Required Updates Before March 20
All parties running BNB Chain nodes must update their software to ensure compatibility with new features. Node operators and validators should update to version 1.5.7, opBNB operators to versions 0.5.2 or 0.5.6, and exchanges and infrastructure providers need to test their systems and developers update code accordingly.
BNB Chain Development Roadmap
The Pascal hardfork is part of a larger development plan. The Lorentz hardfork is scheduled for April 2025, reducing block times to 1.5 seconds, followed by the Maxwell hardfork in June 2025, further reducing block times to 0.75 seconds, enhancing network performance.
The Pascal hardfork marks a significant technical advancement for BNB Chain, enhancing wallet capabilities and user experience. Scheduled for March 20, 2025, it sets the stage for further upgrades, focusing on speed, flexibility, and user-friendly blockchain applications.
