BNB Chain has successfully tested the Pascal hardfork on its testnet. The upgrade will go live on the mainnet on March 20 at 02:10 AM UTC, making it one of the first networks to adopt the EIP-7702 standard.
EIP-7702: Features and Technical Impact
EIP-7702 is a technical standard that enables wallets to operate similarly to smart contracts, simplifying user interactions and providing significant improvements to the BNB Chain. The Pascal hardfork introduces key changes such as gas abstraction, allowing users to make transactions without directly paying gas fees. New wallet features include enhanced security and social login capabilities for accessing blockchain applications.
Required Updates Before March 20
All parties operating BNB Chain nodes must update their software by March 20. This includes updating to version 1.5.7 for BSC node operators and to version 0.5.2 or 0.5.6 for opBNB operators. Failing to update will result in nodes becoming out of sync with the network and processing transactions incorrectly.
BNB Chain Development Roadmap
The Pascal hardfork is part of a larger development plan for BNB Chain. Upcoming major updates in 2025 include the Lorentz hardfork in April, reducing block times to 1.5 seconds, and the Maxwell hardfork in June, further reducing block times to 0.75 seconds, increasing transaction confirmation speed and network throughput.
The Pascal hardfork represents a significant technical advancement for BNB Chain. By implementing EIP-7702, the network is taking concrete steps to improve user experience, enhance security, and expand blockchain wallet capabilities.
