Bobby Kotick, former CEO of Activision Blizzard, shared details about his interest in acquiring video game rights for 'Jurassic Park' and his thoughts on the 'World of Warcraft' movie.
Kotick's Interest in Jurassic Park
On the Grit Podcast, Bobby Kotick revealed his interest in securing video game rights for 'Jurassic Park'. He learned from Steven Spielberg's lawyer, a board member at Activision, that Spielberg was a video game enthusiast. Kotick hoped to secure the rights first and saw potential in the film's script for a great video game.
The Spielberg Story
Kotick contacted Michael Crichton, who advised him to acquire the rights from Spielberg. Bobby took a creative approach by preparing a game manuscript and sending it to Spielberg in a dinosaur egg crate. Kotick personally reached out to Spielberg, who supported the idea, but ultimately, Konami secured the rights. Kotick lamented the loss, believing the game could have been incredible.
Review of the 'World of Warcraft' Movie
Kotick also commented on the 2016 'World of Warcraft' film, describing it as terrible and one of the worst movies he had seen. The film's production heavily distracted the company and delayed game updates. Plans for a movie trilogy were scrapped after its box office failure in the US.
Bobby Kotick shared intriguing moments of his career, including efforts to secure 'Jurassic Park' rights and his stance on the unsuccessful 'World of Warcraft' movie endeavor.
