Leading e-hailing company Bolt reports a significant decrease in offline trips in Nigeria, attributed to new measures aimed at enhancing safety and user experience.
Reduction in Offline Trips
Bolt, a leading e-hailing company in Nigeria, has reported a 42% reduction in offline trips over the last three months. Offline trips have become common in the industry as drivers seek to maximize their earnings by negotiating fares higher than those set in the app.
Safety Measures
The company has implemented several strategies to reduce offline trips. General Manager Osi Oguah noted that these measures include competitive commissions and increased financial rewards for drivers. A speed test system has also been introduced to flag drivers taking trips offline and proactively restrict their activity. Oguah stated, 'Safety is fundamental to the service we provide.'
Launch of First Safety Summit
Bolt has conducted its first-ever Public Safety Summit aimed at bringing together all stakeholders in the ecosystem: riders, drivers, regulators, and operators. Weyinmi Aghadiuno, Bolt's Senior Public Policy Manager, emphasized that the purpose of the summit is to discuss safety issues and foster dialogue among all parties involved. Oguah highlighted that this summit represents a significant step forward in how they engage with riders.
Bolt continues to enhance its solutions to further reduce offline trips and improve safety, as evidenced by the successful launch of the first Public Safety Summit.
