Nowlin was convicted for his role in the fraudulent Undead Apes NFT collection scheme. Along with 25-year-old Devin Alan Rhoden, he helped sell two NFT collections on the Solana blockchain before canceling a third.

In November 2024, a U.S. court found Nowlin guilty of fraud that deceived hundreds of investors with promises of large returns. The Department of Justice stated the scheme was successful due to misleading claims about partnerships with well-known companies and promises of special privileges for buyers.
