Camino Network, Lufthansa Systems, and Swiss International Air Lines have teamed up to develop innovative blockchain solutions in the travel sector.
Hackathon in Frankfurt
Camino Network, Lufthansa Systems, and the Swiss carrier hosted a web3-focused hackathon in Frankfurt. The event gathered experts who utilized blockchain and artificial intelligence to create solutions aimed at enhancing efficiency, reducing costs, and promoting sustainability in the travel industry.
Collaboration Outcomes
Participants from 13 different companies worked for 48 hours on practical solutions. Experts explored how to leverage blockchain technology for the distribution of flights and travel products. 'The hackathon clearly showed how connections that used to take months can now be established within days. The new solutions are significantly more efficient and offer up to 98% cost savings,' noted Pablo Castillo, CEO of Chain4Travel.
Future Plans
Among key presentations was a solution aimed at integrating 300,000 India-based travel agencies into the Camino Network. The SWISS and Digital Hangar team also showcased a solution for creating digital travel identities with wallet integration and issuance of real-world assets, such as vouchers. 'The commercial potential of this technology is promising – especially with faster partner integration and significantly reduced distribution costs,' added Mickael Woelcke, project manager at SWISS.
The next steps following the hackathon will involve the Lufthansa Group assessing which hackathon projects can proceed into pilot applications.
