During the Carney-Trump meeting, key issues blocking the conclusion of the new agreement were discussed. Carney did not comment on the possibility of retaining some tariffs in the agreement but emphasized the need for their removal.
Progress of Further Negotiations
Kirsten Hillman, Canada’s ambassador to Washington, stated that discussions are ongoing and no final agreement has been reached. She stressed that Canada insists on the absence of tariffs on its exports to the US.
Despite optimistic statements, the situation remains uncertain. Both governments are attempting to present a proactive approach to negotiations, but experts believe that actual progress has not yet been achieved.
