Pi Day is an annual event commemorating the achievements of the Pi Network since its launch on March 14, 2019. This year promises another landmark Pi Day due to the recent launch of the Open Mainnet.
The Beginning: First Pi Day 2019
The creators of Pi Network, Stanford graduates Dr. Nicolas Kokkalis and Dr. Chengdiao Fan, introduced the first version of the network on March 14, 2019, marking the beginning of democratizing cryptocurrency mining via mobile devices. That day, a three-phase development plan was introduced: the mobile mining app, the test network phase, and the final Mainnet integration. In a short time, the userbase reached 100,000, and this growth trend has continued in the following years.
Major Pi Day Milestones
Each year, Pi Day expands the horizons of Pi Network and brings new milestones. In 2020, the network reached a million users, in 2021 the Testnet and Stellar Consensus Protocol were activated, and in 2022, the Enclosed Mainnet was launched. By 2023, around 3.8 million users completed KYC validation, and Pi Day continues to be a platform for introducing new community initiatives and programs.
Expectations for Pi Day 2025
In 2025, Pi Day will provide an opportunity to assess the initial performance of the Open Mainnet, which went live on February 20. The network’s achievements, performance improvements, and community engagement are expected to be discussed. Announcements might include new developments and a long-term roadmap, encompassing the dApp ecosystem's growth and expanding user commercial opportunities.
Pi Day symbolizes significant stages in the development of Pi Network, marking past achievements and the project's future ambitions. March 14, 2025, will provide an opportunity to look back at the progress made and set new goals for continuing growth in the crypto world.
