Binance founder Changpeng Zhao responded to rumors circulating on Chinese social media, dismissing them as fabrications.
Reaction to Rumors
In response to Chinese influencer Liang Xi's claim that Changpeng Zhao 'works for the Fed', the Binance founder replied via X (formerly Twitter). He labeled the rumors as 'nonsense', adding, 'How I wish this were true.' Zhao also stated that such stories are made up to garner attention.
Response to Allegations
Noting that Liang Xi had 119,000 listeners on X Spaces with this rumor, Zhao said: 'There’s a saying among Chinese influencers: make up a story about Binance or CZ and get a lot of attention.' He condemned the spread of misinformation.
Tron Scandal and Justin Sun
Zhao's comments came after a report by the Wall Street Journal, claiming he agreed to testify against Tron founder Justin Sun as part of a plea deal with US prosecutors. Zhao again denied this report, indicating that 'they seem to forget who goes to jail and who doesn't,' and that 'government witnesses don't go to jail'.
Changpeng Zhao's statements highlight the importance of critical thinking regarding information and misinformation in the cryptocurrency and financial sectors.
