Former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao has issued a warning regarding the increasing threat of hacking attacks using deepfake technology. Recent incidents have shown how malicious actors exploit this technology to deceive victims.
Deepfake Warning
Changpeng Zhao stated that "even video call verification will soon be out of the window." He urged his followers to be cautious and not to install software from unofficial links.
Mai Fujimoto's Story
Japanese cryptocurrency influencer Mai Fujimoto revealed that her main account on X was hacked during a Zoom call with a deepfake of an acquaintance. She stated that she was tricked into clicking an update link after struggling to hear the audio. "She sent me the link and instructed me to follow some steps to adjust the audio settings, and I believe that’s when the attack compromised my computer," Fujimoto posted.
New Threats in the Crypto Industry
This incident appears to be part of a larger trend. Recently, it was reported that the group BlueNoroff, linked to North Korea, targeted employees at cryptocurrency foundations using similar tactics, installing malicious extensions that could access sensitive information.
The growing threat from deepfake technology requires increased caution from cryptocurrency industry workers and all internet users. Such cases highlight the need for heightened security measures to prevent attacks.
