Crypto exchange Coinbase has announced the expansion of its Ethereum-based asset offerings with the addition of the new token Spark (SPK) and plans for stock tokenization.
New Token Spark (SPK)
Coinbase announced the addition of the new token Spark (SPK) to its platform. It is available for trading on the Coinbase website as well as in the Coinbase iOS and Android apps under the 'Experimental' label.
Support for New Assets and Futures
Coinbase also plans to add support for new assets, including perpetual futures for Spark (SPK) on Coinbase International Exchange and Coinbase Advanced, set to begin no earlier than 9:30 a.m. UTC on June 19, 2025. This month, tokens like PancakeSwap (CAKE), Lagrange (LA), and Ethena (ENA) have also become available on the platform.
Coinbase's Plan for Tokenized Stocks
According to Reuters, Coinbase is seeking approval from the U.S. SEC to offer 'tokenized equities' to its users. This would involve converting company shares into digital tokens, allowing investors to hold tokens that represent ownership of those stocks.
Coinbase is taking steps to expand its offerings to include new crypto assets as well as a potential entry into the tokenized stock market, allowing it to compete with traditional brokerages.
