Collaboration Between Tech Giants to Enhance AI Capabilities

Jun 12, 2024

Tech giants Microsoft, Oracle, and OpenAI have united their efforts to expand the Microsoft Azure AI platform to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This joint venture aims to enhance OpenAI's capacity, which caters to over 100 million users every month.

The collaboration between the three entities, as per Sam Altman, OpenAI's CEO, is a significant step forward. Altman expressed satisfaction in partnering with Microsoft and Oracle, mentioning that OCI's integration with Azure would boost OpenAI's scalability.

Larry Ellison, Chairman and CTO of Oracle, also emphasized the importance of this collaboration. He highlighted the competition in developing cutting-edge large language models, driving the demand for Oracle's Gen2 AI infrastructure.

OCI's top-tier AI infrastructure is making strides in AI innovation globally. OpenAI will now join the ranks of numerous AI innovators from various industries who leverage OCI AI infrastructure for their AI workloads. Companies like Adept, Modal, MosaicML, NVIDIA, Reka, Suno, Together AI, Twelve Labs, and xAI are utilizing OCI Supercluster for training advanced AI models.

The AI capabilities offered by OCI empower startups and enterprises to expedite model development and training leveraging Oracle's distributed cloud infrastructure. For training large language models (LLMs), OCI Supercluster can expand to accommodate 64k NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs or GB200 Grace Blackwell Superchips, interconnected via ultra-low-latency RDMA cluster networking, and offering a variety of HPC storage options.

OCI's Compute virtual machines and NVIDIA GPU instances on bare metal can drive applications in generative AI, computer vision, natural language processing, recommendation systems, and more.

In a connected development, Microsoft has introduced enhancements to its Recall feature, a crucial component of its AI-equipped PCs, in response to cybersecurity concerns. Initially planned for default activation, the Recall utility will now require users to opt-in during the setup process.
