Strategy remains a focal point for its unconventional capital market approaches involving Bitcoin.
Small Fish, Big Splash
Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) has become a dominant player in the 2024 capital markets despite having a small market share. Although it represents only 0.07% of the total U.S. equity market, it accounts for 16% of all equity raised or announced this year. Much of this funding stems from a $2 billion convertible note issuance and a broader plan to raise $21 billion over three years, heavily directed towards Bitcoin acquisitions.
Doubling Down on Bitcoin
In early 2025, Strategy increased its Bitcoin holdings to 506,137 BTC, valued at about $33.7 billion. With Bitcoin's current price at $87,000, these assets are worth over $44 billion. The company has also planned to raise more capital through Class A preferred stock for potential further cryptocurrency investments.
STRK and Financial Engineering
In January 2025, Strategy introduced a new financial instrument called STRK, short for Series A Perpetual Strike Preferred Stock. Issued at $80 with an 8% annual dividend, STRK appeals to investors seeking stable returns. It includes a conversion feature into MSTR shares once a certain price is reached, offering Strategy a way to fund its operations without diluting existing shareholder value.
Strategy's approach illustrates how companies can adapt to digital assets, pioneering new forms of investment. This signifies an evolving intersection between traditional financial platforms and crypto-native systems.
