Crypto funding concluded a highly active Q1 2025 with $7.3 billion in funding from 550 deals.
Crypto Funding Growth in Early 2025
By March 2025, crypto funding had reached $7.3 billion. Despite subdued major assets, VC deals continued. According to Messari's data, $154 million in crypto funding was closed in the past week, with the quarter surpassing previous slow months. Investment activity increased by 13% in the past month. March saw the closing of 122 deals, raising $4.84 billion.
VC Focus on AI
The top 12 funds focus on AI funding, including AI agent platforms and infrastructure. AI made up 30% of all deals, becoming the largest sector. Payment services emerged as a new trend, taking up 18% of funding. Nearly 30% of deals are seed rounds, with rounds from $3M to $10M making up over half of funding activity.
Slowing of Token-Based Fundraising
The first three months of 2025 saw token fatigue with the launch of thousands of meme tokens, resulting in significant losses for most platforms. Private token sales constituted only 2.8% of VC rounds. Specialized platforms have emerged to launch different types of tokens on various ecosystems.
The first quarter of 2025 marked active growth in crypto funding, with a shift in focus to AI projects. Despite challenges with token-based fundraising, the market has revived compared to the start of the year.
