Crypto project funding for 2024 reached $9.33 billion, showing minimal growth over 2023. However, the deal structure shifted as VC funds mixed early-stage seed rounds with advanced and private funding. Among Tier 1 funds, Animoca Brands led in the number of completed deals, participating in 106 rounds and leading 20 of them.
Web3 Sector Retains Leading Position
Over the past year, the Web3 sector continued to hold a significant market share. In the last 12 months, 276 general Web3 projects received funding. Decentralized finance emerged as the largest sector with 375 projects, while only 88 centralized projects attracted VC interest.
Large Deals Boosted Total Funding
The last quarter of 2024 witnessed some of the largest deals in the crypto sphere. Stripe's acquisition of Bridge for $1.1 billion was the largest crypto merger. Robinhood announced its purchase of Bitstamp, pending final regulatory approval. Significant investments were also received by other firms like Monad Labs and Avalanche.
