Iran's largest cryptocurrency exchange, Nobitex, has suffered a serious cyberattack, which led to the implementation of a nationwide curfew, threatening user funds.

Details of the Attack on Nobitex

The cyberattack on Nobitex was carried out by a group called 'Gonjeshke Darande', which publicly threatened to publish the exchange's source code and internal materials. They claimed that funds on the platform are at risk and accused Nobitex of serving as a tool for funding terrorism and evading international sanctions.

Iran's Response to the Cyberattack

The Iranian government reacted to the cyberattack by instituting a curfew that restricts exchange operations to daytime hours. This move is aimed at making it easier to track larger transactions and prevent nighttime cyber intrusions. Users are currently allowed to conduct transactions only from 10 AM to 8 PM, with set limits on withdrawals.

Future of Crypto Regulation in Iran

Iran's finance committee has proposed a series of measures aimed at tightening regulation of the crypto market. Among the initiatives are the introduction of government wallets, blockchain analysis on all exchanges, and strict mining license checks. These measures may reshape the regulatory landscape in the country and impact users going forward.

The cyberattack on Nobitex highlighted the convergence of cryptocurrency exchanges, censorship, and cyberwarfare in the Iranian economy. The future of crypto regulation in the country remains uncertain, and users continue to face anxiety.
