John Garvin, the creative director of Days Gone, expressed disappointment with the portrayal of the game's hero Deacon in a post about Astro Bot. Garvin's opinion sparked discussions among fans and the industry.
John Garvin's Disappointment
On September 6th, Bend Studio, a PlayStation game developer, shared a Twitter post on their official account. The post featured creative art of Days Gone's character, Deacon, overlooking Astro Bot on a beach. John Garvin reacted negatively, claiming that Deacon's reputation was compromised to promote other games.
Bend Studio's Response
The post was initially created to congratulate Team Asobi on the successful launch of Astro Bot, which received critical acclaim right after its release. Bend Studio responded to Garvin's opinion, clarifying that his views were personal and did not reflect the studio's stance.
Public Reaction
Most fans of both games did not agree with Garvin's opinion. A user named Gabriel remarked that the entire studio shouldn't be blamed if Sony is not producing Days Gone 2. In responses to Garvin's criticism, it was noted that the inclusion of many other characters in Astro Bot does not mean they are diminished in value.
As a result of the discussions, Bend Studio stated that John Garvin's positions are his personal opinions and do not reflect the studio's views. Bend Studio has not yet commented on Garvin's recent statements.
