Denmark has announced the launch of a new quantum project aimed at creating the world's most powerful quantum computer. The project is supported by the Novo Nordisk Foundation and involves collaboration with Microsoft.
Launch of the New Quantum Project
The Danish government announced the launch of a new quantum project via the Export Investment Fund, planning to invest €80 million (approximately $93 million) in the creation of a quantum computer named Magne. The project will be undertaken by Atom Computing, with software provided by Microsoft.
Technical Details and Potential
Initially, the quantum computer will operate with 50 logical qubits, which, according to Microsoft's Executive VP Jason Zander, will allow solving problems that are impossible to solve on classical computers. Zander stated that reaching 100 logical qubits would open up possibilities for real-world scientific research, and with 1,000 qubits, the system could tackle complex problems in drug development and materials science.
Denmark in the Global Quantum Technology Race
Denmark's initiative reflects the growing efforts of countries and companies to lead in quantum computing. While the US and China are actively advancing quantum technologies, Denmark aims to keep pace, and creating the most powerful quantum computer could yield significant advantages for the country's science and economy.
If the project is successful, Denmark could become home to an outstanding quantum computer that will unlock new horizons in science and technology.
