Recent estimates indicate a decline in developer activity across major blockchain ecosystems. Ethereum remains the most active network but is also seeing reductions in other leading platforms.
Developer Activity Status in Ethereum, Polygon, and BNB Chain
Ethereum recorded 87.4K development activity events, making it the most active network. However, a 31.07% decrease in overall events and a 15.5% reduction in unique contributors amounting to 1.4K were also recorded. Meanwhile, Polygon held the second position with 40.5K events, representing a 29.59% decline. The number of contributors fell by 10.59% to 591. The BNB Chain published 40.2K events, decreasing by 28.3%, with its contributor base also declining by 13.1% to 756.
Decline in Layer-2 and Cross-Chain Platforms
Two leading Ethereum Layer-2s, Arbitrum and Optimism, recorded a decrease in developer activity and contributors. Arbitrum experienced a decline of 33.28% to 33.9K events, with contributors reduced by 15.29% to 471. Next, Optimism showed a 32% drop in events (32K) and an 8.87% decrease in contributors (421). Similarly, Cosmos, Avalanche, and Solana exhibited negative dynamics. Cosmos reported 27.7K development events, with contributors down by 11.94%. Avalanche had 27.3K occurrences, with a 13.29% decrease in contributors. Solana experienced a 34.65% decline in development activity and a drop of 8.5% in contributors.
Overall Market Trend Among Developers
All ten ecosystems experienced a decline of more than ten percent in development activity events. The decreases ranged from 22.55% in Cosmos to over 40% in Harmony. Contributor numbers also decreased, albeit at a slower pace, suggesting that while the number of events drastically dropped, many developers have not exited the industry.
The decline in developer activity across major blockchain ecosystems may indicate a temporary adjustment in the industry, although many developers remain involved despite the overall drop in event numbers.
