  4. E-hailing drivers in Lagos state have demanded that the management of Lagos government-backed LagRide make their cars available to its members. They also called for Uber and Bolt to reduce their commission to 5%.

    Drivers' Demand

The Lagos Council of the Amalgamated Union of App-based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON) claimed that members who completed medicals and fingerprinting were not allocated LagRide vehicles. Chairman Jaiyesimi Azeez stated that this was due to sabotage by the management.

    Boycott Threat

Drivers also threatened to boycott Uber and Bolt apps over fare reduction decisions made without their consultation. The union, representing over 120,000 drivers in Lagos, facilitating around 500,000 trips daily, warned companies to consider them in such decisions.

    Other Demands

The union demanded involvement in the Presidential CNG Initiative (PCNGI) and free CNG retrofit kits. They also stated that drivers must participate in any price reduction mechanisms, considering rising costs of living, spare parts, oil, food, schooling, and rent.

The union threatened to boycott the apps and shut down their operations if the companies did not comply with their demands.
