Eko Electricity Distribution Company (Eko DisCo) has kicked off the distribution of free prepaid meters to Band A customers as part of the Meter Acquisition Fund (MAF) initiative, aiming to address metering issues and improve service delivery.
Initiating the Free Meter Program
Eko DisCo's General Manager, Babatunde Lasaki, confirmed the company’s commitment to meter all eligible customers within the 60-day timeframe. He also urged customers with outdated or faulty meters to visit the company website for a no-cost replacement.
Understanding MAF and MAP Schemes
The MAF scheme runs concurrently with the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) scheme, which allows customers to purchase meters with reimbursement. The MAF is a government intervention specifically to address metering for Band A customers.
NERC's Role and Future Expansion
The MAF initiative, implemented under the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI), aims to provide meters at no cost to Band A customers and is overseen by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). The scheme may expand to wider customer segments in the future.
Eko DisCo's initiatives are focused on improving service quality and modernizing metering under stringent timelines and NERC supervision, highlighting the company's dedication to technological innovation and electricity sector development.
