Leading Ethereum's restaking protocol, EigenLayer, has unveiled its second improvement proposal, known as ELIP-002. The proposal aims to enhance accountability and operational efficiency within its ecosystem.
ELIP-002 Implementation
According to the official post, the proposal introduces a penalty mechanism known as slashing, along with two innovative concepts: Unique Stake and Operator Sets. These features empower Application Verification Services (AVSs) to penalize operators who fail to meet their obligations. Slashing serves as a deterrent against operational shortcomings, such as computational errors or service downtime. Unique Stake allows AVSs to distinguish and allocate specific stakes for operators, while Operator Sets simplifies slashing rules enforcement.
EigenLayer Ecosystem Developments
The restaking model has become crucial for blockchain security, allowing lower entry barriers for DApps innovation. DeFiLlama reports around $27 billion in TVL across restaking protocols, with EigenLayer leading by contributing over $18 billion.
EigenLayer's Support for Ethereum
The latest development coincided with the Eigen Foundation pledging 1% of its EIGEN token supply to the Protocol Guild, a collective ensuring Ethereum's resilience and long-term sustainability.
The introduction of ELIP-002 aims to boost reliability and transparency within the EigenLayer ecosystem, fostering user trust in the protocol's decentralized architecture.
