Elon Musk, the well-known entrepreneur and businessman, has announced the launch of his new political party called the America Party. This decision comes in response to recent political events in the U.S. and his conflict with former President Donald Trump.
Formation of America Party
Musk announced the formation of the America Party through his page on X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing that the party's primary goal is to restore citizens' freedom. "Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom," he posted, also noting that a poll among users indicated a need for a new political force.
Funding and Guerrilla Strategy Plans
Musk expressed his intention to fund efforts to oust lawmakers who supported the recent tax-and-spend bill. He believes he can focus on a few key districts to influence major legislation. This strategy has raised concerns within the Republican Party, which fears that Musk's conflict with Trump could harm their chances in the 2026 elections.
Barriers for Third Parties in the U.S.
Experts, including election attorney Brett Kappel, note that creating a viable third party in the U.S. is an extremely challenging task. Each state has its own ballot access rules, making it a significant hurdle for new parties. "It might take years for Musk to build a full national party," Kappel added. He emphasized that the system is designed to maintain a two-party dominance.
The creation of the America Party by Elon Musk highlights the growing fragmentation of the political landscape in the U.S. However, despite the ambitious plans, the implementation of these ideas will be fraught with significant legal and organizational challenges.
