  4. Elon Musk, founder and CEO of SpaceX, published a post stating that current bureaucratic hurdles may prevent humanity from reaching Mars. SpaceX has been working on this project for over a decade.

What's the problem for SpaceX according to Musk?

SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk reposted a tweet by Peter Hague, a PhD in Astrophysics and scientific software engineer. Hague shared that SpaceX is now prohibited from flying its Starship until November at the earliest. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) believes that heated parts that landed in the Gulf of Mexico may be harmful to protected marine species. Therefore, it has set up a 60-day consultation with local environmental authorities.

Erik Voorhees’ responses to Musk's statements

Founder of Spaceshift and Venice AI, early Bitcoin investor Erik Voorhees responded to Musk's tweet with a joking comment attempting to cheer him up: 'Has SpaceX even started on its Mars Wildlife Impact Study yet?'

Elon Musk's plans for future Mars flights

Earlier this week, Elon Musk stated that SpaceX plans to send its first spaceships to Mars in two years' time when a window with the shortest distance between Earth and Mars emerges. This window will last nine months and occurs every 26 months, with the flight distance being between 401 million kilometers and 54.6 million kilometers. The first flights will be uncrewed to ensure the spaceships can land on the planet intact. If that mission goes well, in another two years (four years from now), SpaceX plans to carry the first crewed missions to Mars with the goal of establishing a self-sustained city there.

Despite bureaucratic challenges, Elon Musk's plans for Mars remain ambitious. SpaceX strives to overcome obstacles and reach the red planet in the coming years.
