Emirates, a leading airline in the Middle East, has revealed its plans to accept cryptocurrency payments via the Crypto.com platform. This step aims to enhance customer service and attract a new generation of travelers.
Partnership with Crypto.com and New Customer Opportunities
Emirates has signed a preliminary agreement with Crypto.com, allowing passengers to pay for tickets and airline services through its payment system. This collaboration is expected to take effect in 2026. The airline aims to cater to the needs of a new generation of travelers who prefer fast and secure transactions using digital currencies.
UAE as a Global Hub for Crypto
Emirates’ decision aligns with the United Arab Emirates' efforts to strengthen its position in the global digital asset market. The country has created a favorable environment for crypto businesses, especially in Dubai, where the Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority (VARA) was established to oversee the cryptocurrency sector. This initiative has led to the establishment of over 650 crypto companies in Dubai's business zones.
Trend of Airlines Adopting Cryptocurrency
Emirates is not the only airline moving towards cryptocurrency. Another regional airline, Air Arabia, announced in May that it would start accepting cryptocurrency payments using AE Coin, which is backed by the UAE dirham. This indicates a growing acceptance of digital currencies in the airline industry, as companies aim to offer customers more modern and flexible payment options.
Emirates’ transition to cryptocurrency payments reflects the growing interest in digital currencies in air travel. Considering the new partnership with Crypto.com and the broader trend of cryptocurrency adoption, such changes are likely to become standard in the industry in the coming years.
