The event also included a tree-planting ceremony, symbolizing Equinix's commitment to sustainable development and reducing carbon footprint. Managing Director of Equinix West Africa Wole Abu highlighted the importance of data centers for economic growth and plans for expansion in Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, and South Africa.
Acquisition of MainOne and Future Growth Prospects
In April 2022, Equinix completed the acquisition of MainOne, Nigeria's largest internet connectivity provider. The deal, valued at $320 million, marks a significant step for Equinix into the African market. MainOne provides reliable terrestrial connectivity in southern Nigeria and operates three data centers in West Africa, strengthening Nigeria's tech community.
