On January 21, an informal vote began among the Ethereum community to choose Danny Ryan as the new leader of the Ethereum Foundation. According to the website tracking the votes, by January 30, a total of 341 wallets collectively holding 51,209 ETH, valued at approximately $164.4 million, participated. Of these, 99.98% supported Ryan's candidacy.
Community Support for Danny Ryan
Quadrata co-founder Fabrice Cheng supported the campaign for Ryan on the X platform by building a site for the community to express their support. The vote, although unofficial, received widespread approval. Ryan himself urged the community to address issues with respect and reason.
Criticism of Ethereum Foundation Leadership
Since the beginning of the year, calls have grown for the replacement of the current executive director, Aya Miyaguchi, who has been in the role since 2018. She is criticized for lacking credibility among developers and the community. Ryan, on the other hand, is praised for his significant contributions. Vitalik Buterin noted in a post that he is responsible for making leadership decisions at EF.
Although unofficial, the vote demonstrated strong community support for Danny Ryan. However, any leadership changes will be decided by the foundation itself.
