Europeans are backing the introduction of countermeasures against US tariffs to protect their economic interests.
European Support for Countermeasures
According to the Yougov Eurotrack survey, the majority of citizens in Western European countries, including the UK, support imposing retaliatory tariffs on US goods. Danes (79%) and Swedes (73%) are the most in favor of strong measures, while Italians show the least support with only 56%.
Potential Impact on European Economy
Between 60 and 76% of those polled believe that US tariffs will seriously affect the EU's economy. In Germany, the biggest concerns are related to car tariffs, with 75% of respondents fearing significant impacts.
Disagreement with US Policy
US President Donald Trump accused the EU of being unfair in trade relations, but Europeans largely disagree. Between 40% (in Italy) and 67% (in Denmark) of respondents reject this view, while the European Commission is considering a response to US tariffs.
Europeans are ready to defend their interests and economies amid new US tariffs, calling for thoughtful and coordinated actions.
