Europe Moves Towards Cloud Independence: Regionalization and Decentralization

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in regionalism, largely driven by countries' desire to reduce dependence on foreign technologies. Europe is taking measures to strengthen its cloud infrastructure and diminish reliance on major American firms.

Globalization and Its Consequences

Since the beginning of the post-globalization era, the U.S. has focused increasingly on domestic issues. The approach to international relations is changing: where the country once actively intervened in global conflicts, it now does so more cautiously. In response to rising tariffs and uncertainty, citizens are starting to question the resources they need and their availability.

Shift Towards Cloud Sovereignty

There is a notable pushback against American influence in the cloud technology sector from many European countries. Concurrently, companies such as Amazon and Microsoft are facing increasing criticism for their market dominance. A significant step is the initiative to enhance data sovereignty in the EU, which includes support for local providers and cloud services.

Data Decentralization in Europe

Interest in decentralized cloud systems, which can offer an alternative to traditional hyperscalers, is on the rise. Major investors like Nokia are beginning to invest in decentralized cloud solutions. This approach can significantly improve the security of data and enhance accessibility for companies within Europe.

Thus, Europe is actively moving towards building a cloud ecosystem that is not only competitive but also independent. This swift transition to regionalization and decentralization may lay the groundwork for a new approach in global digital technologies.
