Former senior Binance employee Amrita Srivastava has filed a lawsuit against the company, alleging unfair dismissal after raising concerns about an alleged bribery incident involving a colleague.
Incident Disclosure
The employment tribunal in London has revealed claims that a Binance employee allegedly took payments disguised as “consultative services” to expedite a customer's integration into the platform. Srivastava alleged that her colleague concealed his association with Binance and has since left the company.
Binance's Response
Srivastava, who worked on Binance’s Link platform, reported the alleged bribery in April 2023 and was dismissed a month later. She contends this was retaliatory action for her whistleblowing. However, Binance denied the allegations, stating her dismissal was due to poor performance, unrelated to her whistleblower status.
Career Impact
Srivastava, a former Mastercard executive, joined Binance in 2022, anticipating a commitment to compliance improvement. Instead, she describes a “chaotic” work environment influenced by revenue pressures. She emphasized that her experience at Binance has been damaging to her professional reputation.
The UK tribunal’s whistleblowing awards are uncapped, potentially paving the way for significant damages if Srivastava’s claims are upheld. The case provides insight into Binance’s internal operations, already scrutinized following a $4.3 billion penalty for AML violations.
