Iris Ramaya, the former companion of convicted crypto fraudster Adam Iza, has pleaded guilty to a tax charge related to her involvement in his illicit financial schemes.
Guilty Plea and Case Details
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Iris Ramaya admitted to filing a false tax return by failing to report over $2.6 million in funds she received illegally through Iza’s fraudulent activities.
Fraudulent Schemes and Their Impact
Adam Iza, infamously known as 'The Godfather,' admitted guilt in January for orchestrating a series of fraudulent schemes between 2020 and 2024. His operations involved the illegal acquisition and sale of advertising accounts linked to Facebook and Meta, as well as credit fraud. Under Iza's direction, Ramaya established shell companies and opened multiple bank accounts to facilitate unlawful transactions. A significant portion of these illicit funds was used for personal expenses, including luxury real estate and goods.
Consequences and Future for Iza and Ramaya
As part of her plea agreement, Ramaya admitted to transferring more than $2.6 million into her personal accounts between 2020 and 2023. She faces up to three years in prison, whereas Iza, facing substantially more serious charges, could serve up to 35 years. His sentencing is scheduled for June 16.
The case of Ramaya and Iza is among the latest major crypto fraud cases that U.S. authorities have been prosecuting. Ramaya's trial will be another chapter in the ongoing fight against financial crimes in the crypto space.
