The Nigerian Federal Government has announced the launch of a free digital skills training program for students and educators in higher education institutions, prepared in collaboration with Amazon Web Services.
Program Launch
According to the Federal Ministry of Education, the new program will focus on modern digital competencies such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and related fields. This initiative is part of President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at expanding access to 21st-century skills and growing Nigeria's digital economy to $1 trillion.
Participation and Registration Details
The Ministry of Education reported that the program is already live in 43 institutions and has started in federal schools. All educational institutions across the country can participate by appointing program coordinators. Applications for participation are accepted through a designated form that rectors and heads of private and state institutions need to fill out.
Role of Amazon Web Services in Training
Amazon Web Services (AWS) aims to bridge the gap in digital skills globally. According to its research, 30% to 45% of jobs in Nigeria will require digital skills by 2030. A special meeting held in December 2023 focused on how Nigeria can be part of AWS's global goal to train 29 million people for free by 2025.
The launch of the free digital skills training program in Nigeria emphasizes the importance of developing technological competencies for future employment in the country. Collaboration with AWS ensures access to quality educational resources and enhances student preparation.
