Gemini crypto exchange, founded by brothers Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, announced key leadership appointments in Europe as part of their efforts to adhere to the European Union's new digital asset regulations.
New Leadership in Europe
Gemini has appointed Mark Jennings as the head of European operations. Jennings previously managed Kraken's derivatives platform and served as COO for Europe. Daniel Slutzkin has been named to lead Gemini's UK operations, while Vijay Selvam is now the international general counsel.
Compliance with EU Regulations
These appointments are part of Gemini's preparation to comply with the EU's new Markets in Cryptoassets (MiCA) regulations, fully implemented in December. The exchange has also started expanding in the region with its operation in France launched in November. In the UK, the financial regulator proposed a new crypto licensing framework, with final rules expected next year.
European Expansion Amidst US Challenges
Gemini's initiatives in Europe follow a challenging period in the US, where the exchange settled with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and agreed to pay a $5 million settlement over allegations of providing false information on Bitcoin futures.
The appointment of new leadership and adherence to regulations are pivotal steps for Gemini in strengthening their position in Europe as part of their strategy to expand into new markets.
